The playing cards
Alice In Wonderland is about a young girl’s adventure with a deck of playing cards. And so the stage was set. The director liked the idea of the face cards being fractured as are the phrases and comments made by the odd characters in Wonderland.

The big obstacle for designing in the Weasler Auditorium is that the entire set has to be portable and removed within a span of ten minutes if the University has scheduled other activities in the space. Also there are many different parts of Wonderland we are supposed to visit. This was accomplished with the large cards. The play started with the backs of the Bicycle cards showing, and as we moved deeper into Wonderland and closer to the Queen of Hearts and the trial, more of the cards were spun around to reveal the fragmented face cards of a royal flush. They were easily slid into other configurations for different location, such as the tea party or the caterpillar’s lair.
