This design was based on the repetitious circular feeling of a music shell. The concentric circles were mirrored in the stage platforming and in the 45 record album on the drop. Gold musical notes decorated the false proscenium, which blossomed with chasing marquee lights during the show-stopping tune, Shangri-La. This was a fun, musically-centered, presentational platform for the return of the quartet that never had their chance while on Earth.

“MOST ENJOYABLE SCENE- Fake banana lights and tacky red and green trailer lights were just the beginning of fun with “Mathilda.” Using stereotypical south-of-the-border dance steps and vocalizations, the musicians got the audience into the spirit of the music. Soon the audience was singing the chorus with vigor; a few were trying out the maracas; and the kids were modeling sombreros. The performers are aided by a fine design team. Sarah Hunt’s sets smoothly move from plain to fanciful and back, while costume designer Audrey Stables provides the quartet with some sharp plaid tuxedoes”.
